Spring Avenue School Announcements
WE WANT POSTCARDS!
Dear Families,

Great news! Postcards are arriving almost every day! We need MORE! Our goal is to decorate the lobby of our school by August 17th! Keep reading and sending in a postcard to tell us about the book and where you traveled.  Send in as many as you wish! Jennifer B. was the very first postcard this summer and Steven O. holds the record for sending in the most, so far! Way to go, future 3rd graders! Keep on reading, everyone. Our library is open for you! We also have free postcards in the office, or you can send in any kind you want!

HAPPY READING!
Mrs. Webb and Staff

P.S. See the next article on this website for more ideas about summer reading and summer fun!

WHAT CAN I DO THIS SUMMER?
Very often parents and babysitters ask how their child can stay academically active over the summer. As a staff, we have come up with some very successful ideas. Included in this list are some writing, reading and journaling ideas. Click Here to view the document.

The most exciting new activity we are sponsoring is our SCHOOL POSTCARD. Each child received a postcard in their report card envelope. It has already been addressed to the school and students can read the directions, fill it out and send it to school. We will be keeping each postcard for a big celebration when we return. Students can pick up additional postcards in the main office or at the library! THE MAIN GOAL IS TO KEEP ON READING!
Playground Reminders
Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you know the playground and school fields are wonderful places to be in this beautiful weather. We have some VERY IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR YOU:
- Equipment has been approved for ages 5-12. However, some equipment is too high or dangerous for young toddlers and should only be used under close parent supervision.
- Students should not return to play after school hours without permission from their parents. PARENT SUPERVISION IS NECESSARY for all ages. The school grounds are accessible to general public and strangers may be present. Parents and adults are extremely helpful with social interactions that may occur after school hours. Students may need assistance solving problems and making good choices.
- All parks are closed at dusk/dark.

We love for the children to be happy and to enjoy the great weather outdoors, but we appreciate all the help you can provide in making this a safe environment for all!

We ask that you review our
playground safety rules that we use during the school day. Students are familiar with the rules and have been asked to treat the playground with the same respect after school hours as they would during school. Parent support and supervision is necessary for added safety. Thank you!

Going Green at Spring

Spring Avenue Garden Update
A group of Spring Avenue staff and parents are currently planning a garden in the plot at the back of the school, near the playground.  School and district staff members are selecting plants that teachers can use for educational purposes.  The staff is also seeking plants that are well-suited for our climate and able to withstand the frequent activity in that area. CLICK HERE for the Spring Avenue Garden Update.
Spring Avenue School Recognized by the State of Illinois
For the third consecutive year, Spring Avenue Elementary School received the Illinois "Academic Excellence Award".  Spring Avenue School was recognized with this award based on at least 90 percent of students meeting or exceeding standards in reading and math for three consecutive years.

More information on the award and the selection criteria can be found HERE.
